Lisa Marie Presley opens up about her mother
There were times Lisa Marie Presley thought she would never be close to her mother Priscilla.
But times have changed, Elvis Presley's only daughter said, appearing on CTV's Canada AM.
In fact, she wrote one of the songs on her second album Now What with her mother in mind, she said.
"I just got inspired because we did sort of come a long way, and I'm sure that other mothers and daughters can relate to this particular thing," she said.
"We're very close now. I never thought that would happen," she said, describing her and her mother as "opposites."
Indeed these days, Priscilla Presley even loves going on the road with her daughter and the band.
At first, when Lisa Marie Presley heard her mother would be joining them, she wondered how it would work out.
"She was like this natural, I don't know, road mom and she was taking care of the band and making coffee for the bus driver and she was really helping me out," she said.
"Our whole relationship was turned around and it was kind of fun."
Born into the lap of rock 'n' roll royalty, all eyes were on the King's only daughter after she secretly married Michael Jackson in 1994.
When the pair exchanged a kiss on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards, tabloid media speculated that the kiss had been for publicity.
"I think everyone has their history in their lives and, you know, the nature of mine is that it's going to be in the public eye," she said on Canada AM. Presley later married film star Nicholas Cage in 2002, but they have since split up.
Without identifying any particular stars, she noted that when she entered into relationships with other celebrities, it invited public opinion and judgment.
